In this 6th episode of How to Build a Straw Bale House, we install decking over the floor joists. We are using 3/4" T&G OSB with an exposure rating of 1. The decking is glued down using Liquid Nails Sub-floor adhesive and secured with 2-1/2" exterior grade deck screws.
One of the big advantages to Tongue and Groove decking is that when installed with adhesive applied as per the Manufacturers instructions (in our case the company is Norboard) blocking is not needed.
Halfway through I decided to do an experiment and install blocking to see if it had any affect on the rigidity or stability of the deck. I can tell you it did NOT. There is no detectable difference between the half with the blocking and the half without. In fact, the side with the blocking actually had a few squeaks that needed correction.
Had there been a noticeable difference, I would have gone back and added blocking from underneath, which I can always do at a later date if needed.
