From the artist: Today, we are sharing “Strange Meeting With Owls” & “Skewered by the Daystar” (ft. Joseph Shabason) - the first glimpse of a new body of work that comprises two hours of music across three LPs.
The music here was improvised together in the studio, with nothing but our collaborative history and some loose visualizations and mood guidance from me. We switched instruments at will, used a random number generator, played some of the strangest, darkest, funniest, and most beautiful music I think we’ve ever made together. I barely played the guitar.
Then, I carried it off to my cave and chiseled away at it for two years in the little fragments of time that were available to me, with periodic help from the band. I had to teach myself how to do the entire process because it was all new. It was raw, and sometimes painful, and ultimately incredibly exciting and fulfilling. The music is, I think, the best we’ve ever made. I’m so excited to give it to you.
I want to add a special thanks to Brian at Western Vinyl, to whom I sent two hours of weird instrumentals rather than doing what was expected which would be to send a second record that sounded somewhat like Male Models. He was open and real enough to hear that the new music was where the band needed to go, and to support us thoroughly in doing that, and I’m really grateful.
