Strange Fruit was written in 1937 and recorded in 1939 by the great Billie Holiday 🖤 I decided to cover Strange Fruit live after a long conversation with my friend Britt, and thinking about how I can show solidarity for the black community through this very difficult time. I know I will never understand what it's like to be black, but I wanted to share this cover to remind everyone that right now history is rhyming, and we must be careful. These horrifying videos of specifically African Americans being killed by the police ARE modern day lynchings, and no matter who’s side you’re on we need to come together to confront the ongoing problem of police brutality. It has to stop. It is an issue that does not exclusively affect one group; it affects us all ✊🏼✊🏾✊🏿 On the description of my video is a link that you can check out for donations, information, and petitions. PLEASE VOTE IN LOCAL, STATE, AND PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS. EDUCATE YOURSELVES. TAKE ON DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE WILL EFFECT CHANGE. REMOVE THOSE IN POWER WHO HAVE IRREVERSIBLY DAMAGED INNER CITIES AND IMPOVERISHED COMMUNITIES. LETS TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TOGETHER.
