Strange Bottle House with Miniature town
So the story behind the bottle house as I know it states that it was built by a Saloon owner named Tom Kelly back around 1905, at the time Rhyolite was a booming gold mining town that had over 10,000 residents, 50 saloons, a bank, Hotels, stores a school that would acoomodate over 250 children a miners union hospital and of course several red light districs.
It is said that Kelly collected over 51,000 alcohol, medicine and soda bottles to build his home and it took him almost 6 months to complete it. The main reason he built his home out of glass bottles was because lumber was hard to come by in those days and Joshua trees didn't make for good homes.
Unfortunatetly the town went from boom town to bust in as little as 6 years and most of it was abandoned to the harsh desert elements leaving only 14 residents behind. Mr Kelly raffled out the bottle house as soon as he was done building it and since then it has exchanged owners a few times. Today the house sits here as a tourist attraction for anyone who drives through the curious town of Rhyolite.
