On November 16, several regions in southeastern Florida were hit with heavy rainfall and powerful winds, leaving behind major damage. Up to 10 inches of rain shut down many facilities and caused power outages for thousands of residents. As of November 17, some roads across the area are still heavily flooded.
Extreme weather like what Florida is seeing is exacerbated by warming ocean temperatures caused by the climate crisis. Emissions from the continued burning of fossil fuels make the crisis exponentially more potent.
