Today on an action-packed episode of “Stop-Motion Rarities”, it is a Frankenstein-like caveman against a Tyrannosaurus-Rex! Who will win? Find out in “Colosseum” (1990), by Shiro Nakijama. You know this shot on 16 millimeter film is exciting to watch. Willis O’Brien always wanted to do an adaptation of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein with the monster being portrayed by an actor and stop-motion to show off his feats of strength. Obie wanted to make a movie where a Frankenstein Monster, made up of animal parts, fights King Kong in the streets of San Francisco. However, we know what happened to that one (watch my documentary “Hail to the King - A King Named Kong” to find out). Speaking of which, this short, akin to “Frankenstein Conquers the World” (1965), had scenes that pay homage to the original “King Kong” (1933). It looked like a stop-motion battle between Frankenstein and Gorosaurus or The Last Dinosaur. I told you that it is just in time for Halloween, which is five days away.
