Before BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985), there was A SOUND OF THUNDER (1970). This was before Peter Hyam’s overblown feature-length adaptation from 2005. This underground adaptation of the Ray Bradbury short story of the same name, has brilliant stop-motion techniques by Phil Tippett, who would later do the special effects for such films as the STAR WARS trilogy, ROBOCOP (1987), WILLOW (1988), and JURASSIC PARK (1993). If you want to see an adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s THE FOGHORN, apart from watching THE BEAST FROM 20’000 FATHOMS (1953), watch Frank Dietz’s THE LIGHTHOUSE (1976).
