How to stop your reverb sounding harsh using the damping controls in Valhalla VintageVerb.
When a reverb sounds harsh or muddy, most people swap presets or turn it down. The real fix is the damping section, and it's the part most people never touch.
Pull the high damping down and the top of the reverb tail smooths out, so it stops throwing sizzle back over the vocal. Then you've got the same control over the bottom. Damp the lows to stop the tail clouding up the mix, or open them up when you want a warm bloom underneath.
Shape the tail properly and the reverb sits behind the track instead of fighting it.
