Everybody else is happy. You can see it on Facebook. Everybody else is better looking too, and you can see that on Facebook as well. Eckhart Tolle points at the belief underneath that feeling. Many of us assume the world exists to make us happy, and then conclude something has gone wrong when it does not. But that was never its function. The world is here to make you conscious. Once you understand that, it stops feeling like a hostile place, and the challenges stop turning into suffering. He also offers a precise definition of something people talk about loosely. Letting go of judgment does not mean pretending difficult behaviour is fine. You can see clearly that someone is conditioned, reactive, even trying to take advantage of you, and still decline whatever they are offering. What you do not do is equate their conditioning with their identity. That is the whole distinction, and he calls it an enormous liberation, because every time you judge another person you drop back into ego yourself. Then there is the image he returns to. You as a person are a lampshade, and behind it there is light. Some shades are so dense that little gets through, or what does get through comes out distorted. Our purpose is to gradually reduce that density so the light shines more freely. For most people, that thinning happens through suffering, which erodes the ego over time. But there is a point where you recognise what is happening and can let go voluntarily instead. After that, life still challenges you. It simply stops making you unhappy, and each challenge deepens your presence instead. One thing he is clear about. Where someone's conditioning is deeply toxic, choosing to remove yourself is entirely fine. Eckhart goes much further into this in the full session. Join Eckhart Tolle Now to watch. 👇
