Here is Chapter One of my original book: 2254. The book follows a young man named Charlie who has chosen to live off the grid— formerly known as the internet. Even more nefariously, he has chosen to live without his government-mandated brain-machine interface.
Choosing such a primitive life is lonely, however— most don’t know it’s even possible to live without a brain implant and fewer could even comprehend living any amount of time in the offline world. Even if they could, defying the Counsel’s laws is a death sentence in this land, but Charlie has spent his entire life studying evasion of the Counsel and has practically become an expert by now.
When he was young, he went on a school trip to see a savage tribe of primates, formerly referred to as the Amish peoples, as a punishment for questioning laws passed by the counsel in class.
On this trip, however, he felt something he’s since been incapable to put into words— natural human connection. The primates gave him a book, detailing ancient history that the Counsel is bent on erasing, and since then he has never been able to shake his burning desire to collect forbidden history books and learn about the old, and antiquated primitive humans of the 21st century. Humans— that is— without an interface.")
