Why do so many artists apologize before they share their work?
“I know this is terrible, but…”
“I messed up the eyes.”
“I’m not good at this yet.”
In this video, I talk about why we do that—and what it costs us.
I love seeing the art people share in our community. Not the perfectly polished pieces, but the drawings from the middle of the journey: experiments, mistakes, discoveries, and detours. That’s where the learning lives.
If you want feedback, ask for it.
If you’re sharing your process, tell us what you were trying to do.
But putting your work down before anyone else can doesn’t help you—or the people who want to support you.
This is a reminder that you’re allowed to respect your own efforts, even when things aren’t working yet. Progress comes from curiosity and attention, not from self-attack.
If you’ve ever apologized for your art before sharing it, this one’s for you.
