A catapult without springs or weights, powered by kids stomping on it.
Have been able to shoot small potatoes over 45 meters or 150 feet with it. Much further than a comparable size trebuchet ever would!

Safe? Well, without springs or weights to power it, it can never go off by accident. But any contraption that throws something has some inherent risk to it.
