Steel Vampire is an English localization of Metal Mosquito, available for purchase on Steam. The way this mode works is that there are 5 loops to play through, each with changing conditions. Loop 1 is easier than anything else available in the game, loop 2 is more or less MHR Hard mode when rank climbs high enough, loop 3 changes damage taken to 2 HP per hit, loop 4 changes damage taken to 3 HP per hit, and loop 5 changes damage taken to 4 HP per hit. Each loop gives extra HP to all enemies. Normally you will have to play repeatedly from 1-1 to get the best weapon drops later on, so becoming strong enough to 5-ALL the mode takes several plays.

When making a loadout for this mode, you want powerful weapons but you don't want to overdo it as your score multiplier decreases the more powerful you make your ship. You have to find a middle ground where your weapons are both strong and you are still able to score enough to get all the HP extends throughout the time playing. You'll want to keep rank high in the first three loops and then do your best to lower it in the later loops. Getting hit, bombing, and collecting green pickups lower rank slightly.
