They are looking to build the world's first commercially-used quantum computer, using our cryogenic cooling along the way.

$How neutron imaging can help us get to #NetZero: Genoveva Burca, STFC In the run-up to COP26, we asked our researchers to tell us about their work and the challenges of tackling climate change. Genoveva Burca is a Neutron Imaging and Diffraction Scientist working for the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. Her research interests lie in developing and applying advanced imaging and characterisation techniques, to follow the behaviour of natural and engineered materials in real time, and in 3D. Some of the varied work she does around neutron imaging will help to tackle some of the climate change challenges we face. “Applying neutron imaging in life sciences is both challenging and exciting, with a high level of complexity and novelty requiring a bold, creative, interdisciplinary approach. ”Mapping the three dimensional carbon distribution in soil, understanding how plant roots respond to different soil structure and water distribution, effects of environmental fluctuations are a few examples of neutron imaging applications which could help us to tackle some of the current climate change challenges”, says Genoveva.$
