When I started ripping all my Stevie tapes, it's because I was impressed at how a certain digital penpal's rip of Swing and a Miss, a tape I am intimately familiar with sounded so incredibly clearer than the official bandcamp release. When I first got Invites Comparison back in 2020, I had the slightest inkling it sounded clearer, but was convinced I was imagining things.
This rip, though, it really is night and day compared to the circulating one! Yes, the songs are still crunchy and fuzzy, perhaps even a stylistic choice to sound like the FM broadcasts this tape so obviously sought to emulate, but my rip is so audibly less muddy and fuzzy than the circulating version! I hope you all, on apparently it's 50th anniversary according to Stevie's instagram page, enjoy this new rip of Ariel Pink's favorite Stevie tape!
