So… Steven Spielberg almost made a Doctor Who movie.
In the early ’90s, rumours exploded that Spielberg was developing a big-budget Hollywood version — with Tom Cruise reportedly eyed as the Doctor, and Pamela Anderson in a major role.
Fans (and the BBC) were… nervous.
There were real fears the show would lose its weird, low-budget British charm and turn into a loud, glossy blockbuster. Even Doctor Who Magazine publicly pleaded for the show to be treated with respect, while The Independent warned Spielberg: get it right and you’ll win an Oscar — get it wrong, and you’ll be exterminated.
In the end, the movie never happened… and Doctor Who stayed exactly as it was meant to be.
Somewhere in the multiverse though… Tom Cruise is the Doctor.
