Science, Technology & the Future | Steven Novella - Narrow AI, AGI, Prediction & Skepticism @scfu | Uploaded February 2020 | Updated October 2024, 49 minutes ago.
Steven Novella discuses skeptical tools can we use to make sense of future progress in high impact technology - suggesting that we be a humble students of history while not discounting game changes.

Steven further discusses the future of AI and neuroscience - he used to think that we would need to develop a b-line to AGI in order to make substantial progress in AI - however it seems that narrow AI turned out to be way more capable than previously thought. He also says that the shortest most direct path go AGI is by duplicating the brain. He also discuss future progress in causitive AI and AI motivation.
Steve brings up that as AI gets more powerful, we need to be careful - even without malicious intent, there may be unintended consequences. At the moment, we have tool AI - not an AI with understanding - though in the future the line between tool AI and AI that can make sense of things may blur.
