Here’s a really complicated question that’s been swirling around the smash community as of late. What do we do about… planking?
In Melee, Planking is mostly used to run down the timer or hold on to a lead. And even in ultimate, there are rare instances of characters who can effectively plank, and their objective is quite similar.
But when it comes to Steve, the best character in Smash Ultimate, he has quite a lot to gain from planking. Namely: Diamond. And as more and more majors see a massive increase in Steves making it to later phases of bracket, and more and more Steves implementing planking techniques, it brings up the trickiest question of all: What do we DO about this? What CAN we do? Is there any way we can alter the ruleset to nerf steve?
Today, we’ll be going over nearly every single popular solution that has been brought up to deal with this issue. We’ll talk about the pros and cons of each, and by the end, hopefully you’ll be more informed on the topic the next time you get into an argument on twitter.
