Art Talk Tuesdays is a new initiative of Brand Library & Art Center in which we invite contemporary artists to discuss their work and the issues that surround it, followed by a moderated discussion with Los Angeles artist and writer Jennifer Remenchik. This program is free and open to the public.
Drawing from memory and personal mythologies, Stephanie Guerrero creates landscapes of the Americas that she has known and imagined existing throughout various geological timelines. Each work is created by layering images created with mica powder, oil, watercolor and various other mediums on LCD screen diffusion paper. By using this technological material to illustrate landscapes, Guerrero is able to explore her interest in the collision of diametrically opposed concepts and how they relate to our perception of the world. She is interested in investigating the relationship between nature and technology and does so by referencing her experiences of land, labor, memory and mythologies on the diffusion paper.
Stephanie Rose Guerrero was born in Van Nuys, California in 1990. She received a BFA from California Institute of the Arts in 2013. Exhibitions of Guerrero’s work have taken place at: Smoke the Moon in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Eastern Projects, New Image Art in Los Angeles and the Torrance Art Museum. Guerrero lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
