This animation shows the effects that the Earth's orbital motion around the Sun would have on the celestial sphere. The absence of any such effects was taken by the ancients as evidence against a moving earth. We know today that the stars are simply too far away for any such effects to be seen with the naked eye, and that the stars are not all at the same distance from the center of our solar system.
