It is very useful to unravel and understand the atomic mechanisms of phase transformation, as we did for bainite in Lecture 3. However, this knowledge can be used in the design of novel steels with exceptional properties. This lecture is about the design and implementation of carbide-free bainitic steels that contain a mixture of bainitic ferrite and carbon-enriched retained austenite.
