A stormy week in the Yampa Valley with 18.5” at mid-mountain and 30” falling at the summit since Monday. This also means Steamboat has officially surpassed 400” (over 33 ft) of snowfall this season at mid-mountain, the official snowfall measurement stake. To add to the excitement, we’ve also reached 507” (over 42”) at the summit.
Since snowfall recording began in 1979/80, the Resort has seen 8 other winters with more than 400”, with the mid-mountain snowfall record of 489” in the 2007/08 season. Since that season, only two other seasons have surpassed 400” (405” in 2008/09 and 433” in 2010/11).
At the summit, where recording began in 1991/92, top summit winters were 599” in 1996/97 and 519” in 2007/08. The summit base has hovered around or above 100” since mid-January making for consistently excellent conditions.
Steamboat has extended our season by one week for the first time in over 30 years and we expect the snow to keep falling and the terrain to remain in excellent shape. Springalicious events will continue as scheduled on April 8 & 9 with the Cardboard Classic and Splashdown Pond Skim. Our new closing day is Sunday, April 16.
