“Steam in the Mountains” is a two volume DVD series with stories of mountain railroads and locomotives. This is Volume 2 -
We recorded our footage at the Mount Washington Cog Railway in October 2008 during the last days of steam, with as many as 4 locomotives visible at once. Diesels have since taken over all but one trip each day so the scenes found on our DVD are no longer possible! On Chapter Two, Western Maryland 2-8-0 steam locomotive 734 pulls regular trips plus scenes from a photo freight charter.
The Cumbres & Toltec has been described as “A Place Like Nowhere Else” and perhaps is the best example of narrow-gauge steam railroading in North America. Our program features scenes from a 2005 two-day photo freight charter (analog).
Our chapter on German Steam operations features the Harz Mountain Narrow Gauge and the Zittau Narrow Gauge Railways. These two railroads offer steam-powered daily service to locals and tourists. Catch wintertime action and see Harz trains ascending Mt. Brocken.
