TVO Docs | Steam Dreams: Reviving a 160-Year-Old Wooden Carriage | Episode 2 | TVO Docs @tvo | Uploaded August 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Set at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, a team restores an enchanting wooden carriage from the very dawn of the railway age – 1864. In its heyday, it carried Victorian holidaymakers to the posh seaside resorts on the Isle of Wight, but it was scrapped in 1920 and converted into a holiday chalet. The team – led by life-long railway enthusiast, Peter Jardine - needs to turn it back into a carriage fit to carry passengers again, with two second-class compartments and a first-class salon, with rich blue velvet hand-made upholstery and carefully crafted period features.
