Viego and Lucian grapple with losing the loves of their lives. Will either find peace, or only ruin?
Lucian and Viego’s stories follow a similar trajectory, focusing on their tragedies of losing their true loves. The story shows us how both of them doing everything they possibly can, failing and failing again on their path to bring their loved ones back to life.
Riot very clearly compares the two relationships, depicting Senna and Lucian in a juxtaposition to Isolde and Viego. While Lucian and Senna find happiness and comfort in being together and doing their job, Viego celebrates his marriage with Isolde. Things quickly take a dark turn, however, after Senna pushes Lucian away from Thresh’s hook and an assassin’s blade claims Isolde’s life.
Lucian devotes himself to get her free from Thresh’s grasp, while Viego descends into madness. Looking for a way to resurrect Isolde, he ultimately sets his course for the Blessed Isles.
Sentinels of Light: Steadfast Heart Issue 2 serves as a conclusion for the two husbands. While Lucian succeeds in setting Senna free, Viego fails in his pursuit. When Isolde is resurrected as a ghost, she takes Viego’s sword and stabs herself, unleashing black mist onto the Isles.
