State of Decay 3 just dropped nearly 7 MINUTES of raw new gameplay from Gamescom 2026, finally giving us our best look yet at Undead Labs’ long-awaited zombie survival sequel, including brutal combat, co-op teamwork, new movement mechanics, weapon customization, infected zones, explosives, looting, vehicle storage, and a much closer look at the game’s updated UI and open-world sandbox. After years of mostly cinematic trailers, this new alpha gameplay actually shows what State of Decay 3 looks like in action, with survivors clearing out locations, using vehicle headlights to illuminate dark areas, pulling off executions, sniping infected from rooftops, using suppressed weapons, setting traps, throwing sticky bombs, detonating remote charges, and even sliding directly into zombies for quick takedowns that could help conserve ammo. We also get a deeper look at exploration and survival systems as players search buildings, access vehicle storage, collect supplies like disinfectant, modify weapons, and push into a dangerous red-mist infected area while attempting to clear out what appears to be a heavily infested structure. The footage is still labeled alpha gameplay and there are a few rough edges like minor clipping, but visually and mechanically this already feels like State of Decay 2 taken to another level, with satisfying headshots, heavier blood effects, multiple infected types, larger environments packed with buildings to explore, and the return of the living sandbox elements that have always made the series so unique. State of Decay 3 is currently targeting 2027, and with Xbox, PC, and PlayStation all expected to be part of this next chapter, this is easily the most exciting look we’ve gotten at the game so far.
