The State is not opposing bail in the corruption case involving high-profile figures and businesses.

Appearing before the court on Friday are alleged underworld boss Vusimusi Matlala, suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi, EMPD fleet manager Chris Steyn, as well as three companies belonging to Matlala on graft charges.
The case centres on allegations that vehicles used by Matlala’s VIP protection company were irregularly registered as the City of Ekurhuleni municipal assets and fitted with blue lights, before being deregistered as the investigation closed in. The matter was postponed to 14 September 2026 for bail ruling.
