In response to the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling banning affirmative action, California's legislature has passed a bill prohibiting private nonprofit colleges from considering legacy or donor connections in admissions. If signed by Governor Newsom, the law would take effect in 2025, joining several other states that aim to level the playing field for low-income and minority students.
