The North side of the house is an area as yet untamed .. a great opportunity to build a forest garden, one step at a time. In order to withstand periodic droughts, we will build a simple system for retaining water into the foundations of the garden .. by jump-starting the same system a natural forest uses: The living soil itself. In this second installment, Jason describes the methods that lowland forests use to build soil through natural processes, then proceeds to prepare the new forest garden addition for planting with the shaping of pits and mounds, and planting a cover crop. Last frost has arrived .. and Planting is coming up next!
