Starship is simulated using 200,000 SPH particles with a cohesive force holding the shape of fragments. Each particle has a certain 'activation strength', the force necessary for fragmentation, with several predefined fault planes having lower activation strength, allowing the spacecraft to break up into polyhedronal debris.
Instead of an explosion, the fragmentation is initiated by centrifugal force due to the rotation of the spacecraft.

The trails are created by spawning massless (non-interacting) particles. The particles cool down and fade over time but otherwise do not participate in the simulation.
