Starfire was probably the first video game I have ever played in the arcades in mid-80s. I remember sitting in a cockpit holding the spacecraft joysticks being amazed by massive explosions when flying in the deep space. I felt like it was for real. After all those years, playing the C-64 conversion, I have to say, all visual shocks are gone... but I am amazed how well they managed to code the sound explosions. It sounds so cool & boomy and possibly like the arcade machine (which I don't exactly remember) that I tend to keep playing this version just because of the sound. I am wondering how they would achieve this kind of sound on any other home computer systems... Make sure you use the 6581 model otherwise the low-pass frequency audio filters are completely off - a common problem for C64C users when noone makes a patch for 8580...
