The first major wave of hands-on gameplay sessions with Star Wars Zero Company has arrived and the reactions range from calling it a potential Game of the Year contender to some concerns expressed by some journalists.
In this video, I break down what journalists and creators who played between four and more than fifteen hours are saying about the game. We’ll cover the tactical combat, three-Action-Point system, Backup and Advantage abilities, Bonds, permadeath, extensive character customization, The Den headquarters, campaign structure and much more.
I’ll also examine the biggest concerns raised so far within the unfinished preview build. Also keep in mind these are hands-on preview impressions rather than final scored reviews, and all preview footage shown is from a work-in-progress version of the game, not the final review build.
Star Wars Zero Company releases August 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
What do you think? Does Zero Company’s similarity to XCOM make you more excited or were you hoping for something completely different?
