The Blockade of Yavin (0 ABY)
The Gordian Reach was the site of a tense few months of operations as the Rebels defied the Yavin blockade.
"By the time we landed on Yavin, whatever shock we'd felt at the destruction of the Death Star had been replaced by anger. For months we'd treated the Rebellion like a disobedient child, only to be repaid for our tolerance with treachery on an unimaginable scale. Frankly, I don't remember much of the fighting. I guess we won."
Entry from the Journal of the 501st detailing the Imperial attack.
The Battle of Yavin gave the Rebel Alliance credibility as a legitimate military threat to the Empire. With the Death Star's loss over Yavin, the Destruction of Alderaan and the murder of billions was no longer an object lesson, but a rallying cry for the resistance. The Empire began to rely increasingly more on acts of terror to stamp out dissent, for example, the release of the Candorian plague on Dentaal. In the Tion Hegemony, Clariv was subjugated for Rebel sympathies.
The Rebel commanders knew that their celebrations would be short-lived. Because of the destruction of the Death Star, the Empire would focus all of its military might into destroying the Rebels. Preparations were made for a full-scale evacuation of Massassi Station and relocation to another secure hideout. The Empire expected the Rebels to flee Yavin immediately, but instead much of the base remained intact. Jan Dodonna supervised evacuation efforts, but while some heavy equipment and critical supplies were removed, he convinced Mon Mothma that most of the base's personnel and equipment could be hastily evacuated at short notice. He saw making a stand on Yavin 4 as a powerful statement of defiance and a recruiting tool.
In turn, the Empire countered with a propaganda effort of its own: just prior to Yavin, the planet Ord Biniir had been taken by a force of Rebel Y-wings. The second squadron of the 181st Imperial Fighter Wing, led by Captain Soontir Fel, was sent to retake the planet. Under Fel's expert leadership, the Second Battle of Ord Biniir was an utter rout. But for the fact it had happened on the same day as the Battle of Yavin, Ord Biniir would have been a terrible Rebel defeat. However, the Empire heavily-publicized the victory to distract from Yavin, and Fel was publicly promoted to Major and given de facto command of his unit, which was rebuilt as an elite group. The 181st Imperial Fighter Group would become one of the most celebrated units of the Galactic Empire's Starfighter Corps, and one of the most feared by the Alliance.
The Imperial Navy established a loose blockade around the Yavin system, but it was complicated by a lack of ships. The starfleet was spread thin searching for the roving Alliance Fleet, and to commit too many ships to Yavin would allow the Rebels to make major strikes elsewhere and make the Empire look impotent. Alternatively, if too few were committed, Mon Mothma and Admiral Ackbar might arrive in strength to break the blockade and win a second battle of Yavin. Darth Vader, meanwhile, was committed to leading the attack on Yavin personally from the bridge of his nearly-complete Star Dreadnought Executor, a colossal warship designed to be so powerful that its mere existence would pacify multiple sectors. As the Executor was completed, the blockade would fix the Rebels in place

Star Wars: Battlefront II is a first and third-person shooter video game developed by Pandemic Studios, and published by LucasArts. The game is the sequel to the successful Star Wars: Battlefront and features new vehicles, characters, game mechanics, maps, and missions. The game was released in PAL regions on October 31, 2005 on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox platforms, and in North America on November 1 of the same year. It was later updated to be backwards compatible for the Xbox 360. It was also released on the PlayStation Store on October 20, 2009 for download on the PSP.
Unlike its predecessor, Battlefront II features a more narrative-based campaign, retelling portions of the Star Wars story from the point of view of a veteran Imperial stormtrooper, reminiscing about his tour of duty in service of both the Galactic Republic and as part of the Galactic Empire. Gameplay additions over Battlefront include the use of Jedi, additional game modes, and objective-based space battles.
Battlefront II was fairly well received, with the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions scoring in the mid 80s at aggregators GameRankings and Metacritic. The PC version scored slightly lower at both sites, scoring a 76.60% at GameRankings and 78 at Metacritic. The PSP version was the worst received, scoring 70.93% at GameRankings and 69 at Metacritic. Reviewers generally praised the narrative-based story; however, some felt that the upgrades from the original were not enough to merit the price.
GameSpy Technology scheduled a shut down across all titles using the service for May 31, 2014, which included Star Wars: Battlefront II for PC, PS2, and Xbox. However, Electronic Arts had prevented this from happening, as theyve announced that for a few titles, GameSpy functionality would remain active until June 30, 2014. The extended support offered by EA had ended on July 25, 2014, taking all GameSpy online video games across all platforms, offline. Battlefront II is fundamentally similar to its predecessor, albeit with the addition of new gameplay mechanics. The general objective in most missions is to eliminate the enemy faction. Like Star Wars Battlefront, the game is split into two eras, the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War. Players have the ability to choose between six classes during gameplay. Four class types are common to all factions; infantry, heavy weapon, sniper and engineer. In addition to the four standard classes, each faction has two unique classes which unlock by scoring a predetermined number of points. For the Rebellion faction, the Bothan Spy and the Wookie; for the Empire, The Officer and The Dark Trooper; for the Republic, the Commander and the Jet Trooper; and for the CIS, the Magnaguard and the Droideka. Battlefront II also features heroes - a special class that allows the player to control iconic characters from the Star Wars universe. Heroes serve as a bonus to players, and are unlocked by meeting certain criteria, such as earning a certain number of points. Differences between Battlefront II and its predecessor include the ability to sprint and the ability to roll forwards.
Campaign
Whereas Star Wars: Battlefront s campaign featured missions dependent on the chosen faction, Battlefront II contains only one campaign, called Rise of the Empire, which is found in every version of the game except the PSP. This set of missions is presented as the narration of a veteran of the 501st Legion, known as Vaders Fist, beginning with an attack on the planet Mygeeto during the Clone Wars and ending with the assault on Hoth as depicted in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. There are a total of 18 missions, four of which are optional space missions.
The PSP version of Battlefront II does not feature the Rise of the Empire campaign. Instead it features three single-player Challenge modes; Imperial Enforcer, Rogue Assassin, and Rebel Raider. In Imperial Enforcer the player is sent to eliminate indigenous species on several given planets, such as Gungans on Naboo and Ewoks on Endor.[8] Rogue Assassin requires the player to eliminate all Imperial officers on a given sets of planets. Bonus points are awarded for any other kills. Finally, Rebel Raider tasks the player with locating specific objects in a map and returning them to a designated drop point, similar to Capture the flag Star Wars Battlefront 2 mods: Battle for Republic City](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/XQtuvvfDLq0/mqdefault.jpg)

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or simply Rogue One, is an upcoming American epic space opera film[1] directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz, from an idea by visual effects supervisor John Knoll. It will be the first stand-alone Star Wars Anthology film, and the ninth theatrical feature film in the series. Set in the Star Wars universe shortly before the events of A New Hope, the story will center on a group of Rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans for the Galactic Empires new weapon, the Death Star. It will star Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Jonathan Aris. The film is produced by Lucasfilm and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Principal photography began at Elstree Studios, near London during early August 2015. Rogue One will be released on December 16, 2016. In February 2013, The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger confirmed the development of two stand-alone films, each individually written by Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg. On February 6, Entertainment Weekly reported that Lucasfilm is working on two films featuring Han Solo and Boba Fett. Disney CFO Jay Rasulo has described the stand-alone films as origin stories. Kathleen Kennedy explained that the stand-alone films will not crossover with the films of the sequel trilogy, stating, George was so clear as to how that works. The canon that he created was the Star Wars saga. Right now, Episode VII falls within that canon. The spin-off movies, or we may come up with some other way to call those films, they exist within that vast universe that he created. There is no attempt being made to carry characters (from the stand-alone films) in and out of the saga episodes. Consequently, from the creative standpoint, its a roadmap that George made pretty clear. John Knoll, visual effects supervisor for the prequel trilogy, pitched the idea for the film 10 years before the films development; after the Disney acquisition he felt as if he had to pitch it again or forever wonder what might’ve happened if I had. In May 2014, it was announced that Gareth Edwards would direct the first stand-alone feature, to be released on December 16, 2016, with Gary Whitta writing the film. In October 2014, cinematographer Greig Fraser revealed that he would be working on the film and the film had a working title. In January 2015, it was revealed that Whitta had completed his work on the film and would no longer be with the project.[36] Kinberg was considered as a replacement. Later in the month, it was announced that Chris Weitz had signed to write the script for the film. In March 2015, the title of the film was revealed to be Rogue One. Also in the month, Alexandre Desplat stated that he would compose the music for the film, though this has yet to be confirmed by Lucasfilm. In April 2015, at Star Wars Celebration, it was revealed that the stand-alone films would be released under the umbrella of Star Wars Anthology. It was also confirmed that Rogue One takes place between Episodes III and IV, being closer to IV in the timeline. At Disneys biannual D23 Expo in August 2015, it was announced that the films title was amended to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In July 2016, discussing if the film would feature an opening crawl, Kennedy said, were in the midst of talking about it, but I dont think these [Anthology] films will have an opening crawl. Edwards added, The idea is this film is supposed to be different than the saga films... [however,] this film is born out of a crawl. The thing that inspired this movie was a crawl and what was written in that. Theres this feeling that if we did a crawl, then itll create another movie. And so the honest answer is youll have to wait and see.Edwards stated that the style of the film will be similar to that of a war film, stating, Its the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. Its complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie.
