Darth Vader's mask and helmet in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith mark the dramatic birth of the Sith Lord. This occurs in the final scenes when the severely burned and limbless Anakin Skywalker is reconstructed in a medical facility on Mustafar/Coruscant. The moment the helmet is lowered and sealed onto him—with the iconic first mechanical breath—symbolizes the death of Anakin and the rise of Vader.
Key Design Features
The Revenge of the Sith version of the helmet was specially created for the prequel. Unlike the asymmetrical Original Trilogy helmets (sculpted by Brian Muir for A New Hope), this one is perfectly symmetrical—a deliberate choice enabled by modern digital scanning and mirroring techniques.
