Season 2 Episode 7
Episode: "Unnatural Selection"
The Enterprise receives a distress signal from a Federation supply ship USS Lantree. Unfortunately for the crew of the Lantree, at some point prior to the Enterprise's arrival, everybody aboard is found having died from natural causes. Back-tracking the Lantree's mission reveals that the starship's last stop was a supply run to the Darwin genetic research lab on Gagarin IV. The Enterprise's visit to that planet reveals that the researchers there have also declared a medical emergency at their facility, it's population having contracted a bizarre condition that rapidly accelerates the aging process.
There is a small group of people on Gagarin IV who are unaffected by this disease; the lab's children. These children are unique in that the researchers at Darwin have genetically engineered these humans to be physically flawless, their minds advanced enough for them to possess telekinetic and telepathic abilities and then there's their immune system, which is advanced enough to protect them from all known disease.
Doctor Pulaski is infected by one of the children from Darwin during her attempt to prove that the children are not carriers of the disease. After a visit to the Darwin research facility, a brief presentation of their work by the facility's lead researcher and a genetic analysis run by Commander Data, it is discovered that the lab's children are indeed the cause of this disease.
