Out of the entire Green Lantern franchise, few characters have been around as long as, or appeared as often as, Carol Ferris. She's been Hal Jordan's boss and/or potential girlfriend for more than 70 years, and is the character this franchise uses to explore the power of love. Carol's alter ego of Star Sapphire starts out as a gimmick to facilitate a love triangle, but would eventually become something much more troubling, and call into question the ability of this franchise to answer any of the big questions about love it enjoys asking. What kind of message does Green Lantern send about the nature of love, and why does it ultimately come down to the existence of a character named the Predator?
