Zoness is reached by taking the standard route out of Aquas, and it stands out as one of the more unusual stages in the game. Once a beautiful paradise, Zoness has been transformed into a heavily polluted toxic zone by Andross's forces, giving the stage a distinctive murky atmosphere that the remake renders beautifully in HDR. Zoness is built around stealth elements, and its alternate route objective is widely considered the hardest in the entire game, requiring you to destroy all 36 searchlights without being spotted to unlock the path to Sector Z.
