OK, the Talon is not a standard for small fighter ships. This is more a condemnation of the Talon. But also to show that owners of bigger ships can be a bit too convenient at times.
What people also like to forget about the Merc is that with a cockpit elevator, if you don't run through the ship, you might still need to run from the back of the ship to the front, unless you are able to specifically park it for quick getaway somewhere, and the elevator itself also takes time, especially if you leave it up so no one messes with it, but the mechanism will definitely take a couple seconds.
