Anyone else feel stuck in the middle of a series? Or just get series fatigue? I do all the time and it’s led to more than one reading slump! Standalone reads are a great way to break the cycle, though they some times feel few and far between. Here are some options across several genres to hopefully inspire a one and done reading experience. Let me know in the comments what your favorite standalones are or if I should do this again.
Today’s little bit of allyship is all about donating. There are a ton of links below that I hope you’ll check out, but I also want to reiterate that you should not feel pressured to donate money somewhere if you cannot afford to do so. Consider other places and spaces to donate your time or energy instead. Many places need volunteers right now and would appreciate your support in a different way. Donating blood is also an important thing that we’re not talking about as much right now, but I also understand that the COVID situation makes a lot of that complicated for folks as well. Ultimately do what’s right for you when considering donating and know that there are plenty of options.

Town & Country compiled this list that includes some charities that weren’t on my radar before: townandcountrymag.com/society/money-and-power/g32730417/george-floyd-blm-how-to-donate-help
Los Angeles LGBT Center does a lot of cool work in its community: lalgbtcenter.org

Or you can donate to more future forwards spaces in your community. Gameheads is a really cool organization that empowers youth of color in the tech and game industries:gameheadsoakland.org
As for the videos that you can watch for free, YouTube has taken several of them down because they say it violates their policies about spam. They’ve acknowledged that the majority of these creators were creating content without being aware of this being a community violation, so the videos are being removed. You can read more about this here: variety.com/2020/digital/news/youtube-pulls-black-lives-matter-fundraising-fake-engagement-video-1234632086
I still highly recommend creators like Myonna from myonna reads who are doing long streams and is planning to make donations: youtube.com/channel/UCQBtjMbFlM1oI0ImK8BH7wQ
If you know of other videos that are still up please let me know in the comments!
