Let's not romanticize our sad
years of oppression, shall we?
I said quietly to myself at the
office yesterday

See, Ive been working myself like
A dog this year, and all the while I'm
Watching the man pick
Fruit from the vines of the
Gardens that I planted this Year

There was a time I once believed
world is wide and full of wonder.
and I've never squandered
Opportunities that come my way.

But I'm still shivering in
The house again like every winter.
Scraping by on kitchen magic
And the kindly acts of strangers.

I'm still sublimating my
Lust for life unjustly I swear
I deserve much better than this
Life of mere subsistence and debt.

I would say that I have loved
My life as a philosopher
Chasing that inner spark that
I often've call divine.
I know we're characterized as
Malcontents and jobless losers.

Though everyone comes
Running back to us
When the hour is dire
Or they are near death!

And I have lived these years
On meager pay and bread and water.
As our fellow ascetics do
On their journey to enlightenment.

You spend your graduate studies
Teetering on the brink of squalor
And Sometimes I will ask myself if
The dream really worth it.

But I've been wanting this
For my whole life, professor
So now am I destined to perish
Rich in the spirit but
also poor in the flesh?

Let's not romanticize our sad
Years of oppression shall we

Again and just this Christmas
Waking up to the calculations
Of the monthly bills and rent.

I hear they're trying to start up
