The rift between the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) and Rome has never been about liturgy, but about doctrine.
Not only does the SSPX reject aspects of Vatican II, its position regarding the Novus Ordo Mass, the New Mass, is far more extreme than most people know: The SSPX rejects the Novus Ordo, not simply as harmful, but as intrinsically evil — regardless of how reverently it is offered, regardless of how carefully the priest follows the rubrics.
And on a related note: Could we please stop bringing up the analogy of the Chinese bishops and the Vatican?
