Spring is finally here, which means it’s time to wake the garden back up.
In this video I’m cleaning up garden beds, planting the first crops of the season, and adding a layer of broken-down woodchips that have basically turned into compost. I also add fresh woodchips to the garden paths and cover some early plantings to protect them from the cold.
Woodchips have become one of the most important tools in my garden for building soil, holding moisture, and slowly creating rich compost right where the plants grow.
This is what my early spring garden prep looks like as the season gets started.
