Spotted Garden Eels (Heteroconger hassi) and Splendid Garden Eels (Gorgasia preclara) are very interesting additions to the tropical marine aqaurium. They are small eels that live in burrows on the sea floor. They appear to 'grow' from the ocean floor as plants do in a garden, hence their name garden eels!
The Splendid Garden Eel (Gorgasia preclara) is found in the Pacific Ocean while the Spotted Garden Eel (Heteroconger hassi) is found in the Indo-Pacific. For beautiful photographs of numerous fish species together with interesting facts and information about each type of fish visit
