How to spot weld your Tesla style 18650 battery packs. Is it possible at all? can we save some time instead of soldering?
-- More information below! --
Spot welding your fuse wires are not that hard. But it do require that you know what you are doing.
If you either do it with to low current or to high current the wire will either come loose or break at the point
The simple tests i did in this video shows me that the spot it self is as tough as the soldered wire is.
For normal low current use on powerwalls this will work more than happily. On high current applications i do not know.
I still go back and solder the fuse wire against the copper busbar but that goes very fast.
Total save in time here is quite large. But it requires more equipment. You can potentially build your own spot welder. Either by using a MOT transformer from a microwave oven.
Or build one based on for instance arduino and a car battery. The choices are many. I went with below spot welder and it works like a charm for this!
If you still have questions or want to know more about it just comment below. I can always do a follow up video if so is needed.
