When most Christians think about Ephesians 6, they picture an individual believer standing alone in battle against demons.
But that's not what Paul describes.
Paul has spent five chapters talking about the church as a unified body. Then he says, put on the armor of God so you may be able to stand.
Stand. Not attack. The church is holding ground against deception and division—the things that fracture unity.
And the armor? Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation. These protect a unified community from forces that want to tear it apart.
Paul gets this imagery from Isaiah 59, where God wears the armor. Now the church wears it.
Spiritual warfare is communal standing firm against powers that thrive on division.
Every time you choose reconciliation over hostility, you're engaging in warfare. Every time the church refuses to fracture along ethnic lines, it's defeating the powers.
