i look outside, to the backyard, the fish market, the closed down shops, the corny holiday decorations
snow sprinkles itself so deliberately
like the icing powder i’m emptying
onto this italian cake
i imagined we were trapped in a snow globe
a child was turning us around saying
“mommy! mommy! do you see in the window? those four funny, kind of lost-looking people? are they smiling or is that a frown?”
you could say we were feeling pretty upside down.
