In an interview, actor Tom Holland and director Destin Daniel Cretton spoke about how the Spider-Man games from Insomniac influenced Brand New Day, specifically with how Spidey lands a knockout blow on his enemies.
“A lot of the action,” from the games inspired Holland, “A lot of the finishing moves. I was actually playing the game last night. For me, a lot of those finishing moves, a lot of our stuff was influenced by that stuff.”
Cretton added that Holland’s love of the games was shared by many of the stunt performers in the film, who brought screenshots of Spidey’s finishers to the writer’s room as they wanted to pull off those moves in real life.
“A lot of the action designers and stunt people we had were huge gamers,” Cretton said. “They were able to experience things in those games that made them excited, and they would just screengrab the moves they really liked and bring them into the writers’ room and show it to me. And then we’d be like, ‘Yeah, that’s sick. Let’s try to figure out how to do that for real.'”
