When I was about 10 years old, I used to live in a building in Brockton, Massachusetts and the artist who originally recorded this song, Sharon Brown, lived in the same building as me with her sons. When I would come over to her house to play with her son, the vinyl cover was on the wall. She had pretty eyes and cornrows in her hair...Love the image...She would play the song for us. I think she might've been depressed that her career didn't go as well as it should have. She had fell into crack addiction and alcoholism. Little did I know my mother was going through the same thing for different reasons and my life was about to be turned upside down by the crack epidemic. What I do remember is how happy she was to play this song for us. She was so proud of it. She would play its and spin around the room with a glass of liquor and it seem to transport her to a happier time. That ability stuck with me. Despite being depressed, the joy in this song and her creation was always present. So when I thought about doing a Sylvester-like disco cover that wasnt already over covered , I wanted to do this one and so I did ......So shout out to Sharon Brown, Lotti Golden ,and Richard C. Scher
