Leadership is a precious commodity in today’s NHS.
John Drew, Director of Improvement and Culture at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has launched a series of Leadership Talks – open to all staff – with a range of internal and external speakers.
The first talk was on 2 November 2018 at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC) in Oxford, where guest speaker Megan Reitz talked about speaking truth to power.
Megan is an author, speaker and researcher who has spent 20 years focused on how we interact with one another in the workplace. She shared insights into how we can overcome the power differences which exist in organisations by changing our conversational habits; how we listen, what we say and how we say it.
The next event in the Leadership Talks series will be on 25 February 2019 at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where Dame Fiona Caldicott will be the guest speaker.
Dame Fiona, whose term of office as Chairman of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comes to an end in March 2019, will share her valuable insights from her life and career. She received a lifetime achievement award from the Royal College of Psychiatrists in November 2018 and her previous roles include
Dame Fiona was the first woman to become President and Dean of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and she received a lifetime achievement award from the College in November 2018.
This was just one of a number of significant and groundbreaking achievements during her long and distinguished career.
She chaired the Caldicott Committee into the protection and use of patient information and in 2014 she was appointed as the first National Data Guardian for Health and Care by the Secretary of State for Health. Her work has helped to ensure that patients' personal confidential data is held and used safely to support better outcomes from health and care services.
Dame Fiona has been Chairman of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2009, and her previous roles have included being Principal of Somerville College at the University of Oxford and Chairman of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.
