So I wanted to try a new place today, somewhere following manifest destiny properties, so that means I had to go west. Looking on google maps following the EJ&E, the town of Spaulding came up. Seeing how the CN purchased the EJ&E almost a year ago now (10 months ago) it is assumed that atleast one CN train would fly through the diamonds. Right when I got to the junction my first goal was to find a legal parking spot close to the crossing. That took quite a while. While driving back and forth wasting gas the gates go down, and an inbound Metra with an F40C flies by. Then I cross the CN tracks and look down the siding/yard, and right around the curve are two EJ&E units, 657 and 703, with train N21 (I don't know the CN symbol. "L"-something...). Drove around some more, came back to the crossing, and a Metra outbound streaks through. Finally I found a spot to park, though I still question if it was legal or not, but it wasn't like I was going to go far from the car. The same outbound returns inbound, and is followed by CP 614. My video camera died right after the engines cleared the crossing. Plus I got cloud fucked in Spaulding, so I chased 614 from Spaulding to Roselle, and the chase went well. CP 614 with ICE 6449, CP 6074, and DM&E 6050 storm east through Roselle with a loaded ethanol. I'm glad my Halloween morning went well, seeing how I have to close the store tonight...
